Blogging is easy.
If you can routinely slay writer’s block, look the other way on Twitter hate and use the em dash way more than a sane person should, you’re halfway home. In all seriousness, it’s these cats filming themselves hucking plastic on YouTube that have my utmost admiration …
I couldn’t do it.
Disc golf media is still small, but the sport’s in a good spot with its various Youtube offerings. Yes, they went corporate, but JomezPro set the standard. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, Foundation Disc Golf is both creative and consistent. And it’s a lesser-known channel, but I’m a loyal, die-hard follower of Small Bore Outlaw’s ability to resurrect long-forgotten professional footage.
There are others, too.
I’m sure you have your favorites.
To date, however, no single channel has ever topped Central Coast Disc Golf’s “Champs vs. Chumps” series – it’s got it all. If you’ve never tuned in, here’s the basic premise: Two touring professionals (one MPO and one FPO) team-up to take on an army of average-Joe disc golfers. The pros play best-shot doubles, while the chumps get four cracks at each shot to save face.
You might think this would be a slam-dunk for the Champs …
It’s not.
Watch this ONE hole …
That’s it – one hole:
The competition is merely the tip of the iceberg with this series, though …
For starters, it’s a televised social experiment. Be honest: Watching tournament coverage on the Disc Golf Network, have you ever tried to convince yourself you could hang with the world’s best? “Champs vs. Chumps” gives you a real-life look into how you might fare. Furthermore, this is (kind of) pro men vs. pro women vs. pedestrians – and all in one video, to boot.
Next, “Champs vs. Chumps” is about as laid-back of a disc golf event as you’ll ever see. The driving force behind the relaxing, light-hearted atmosphere? It’s stand-up hour with Nate Sexton.
A.J. Risley has hosted a time or two – perhaps a few others. But by and large, this is Sexton’s time to shine. And when it comes to ribbing Chumps for their shameful play, he’s all-in …
It’s a verbal bloodbath out there.
One more thing worth mentioning …
Theme music.
Get beyond disc golf. Think of anything with a jingle or theme song: radio shows, television commercials, walk-up music in Major League Baseball, etc. All of them pale in comparison to Unique Syntax’s “Rocking to Brock.” Royalty-free music or not, this thing’s a total banger …
Nice work, Ian Anderson.
Bottom line, there’s ZERO like “Champs vs. Chumps” anywhere else on the interwebs …

Editor’s Suggestions:
- What’s a ‘casual area’ in disc golf?
- Gripe No. 29: Disc companies with boring names for frisbees
- Amateurs: Don’t keep score during (occasional) practice rounds

I’d never heard of this. I just watched a bit. This is fascinating. I will have to keep checking it out. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for reading, Steve-O!
Yeah, surprised you’ve never heard of the series …
No bother: You’re onboard now, and that’s all that matters 🙂
I don’t know about Champs Vs Chumps being the GOAT of disc golf YouTube. I would take JoMezPro’s putting games anyway over Champs Vs Chumps. Or just a straight up tourney.
The “Putting Game” is a good one …
It feels like it’s run its course, though.
You think it’ll be back for a third season?
(fingers crossed)
champs vs chumps vs SantaCruzMas (sp?) if they were both still going on ?
Oh, man …
The Masters Cup is divine.
That’s a tough call …
