You don’t need much stuff to disc golf.
That’s one of the things I like best about it.
A few discs, a quality pair of shoes, maybe a bag for everything and a pulse – that’s about it. Because the game is so simple, I love it when a disc golf company gets creative with its products.
Discineer is one of these companies.
Given the name, it makes sense:
Disc + Engineer = Discineer
To date, the small business’ core offer is the Run Maker.
The Run Maker is a mini marker that doubles as a short-distance rangefinder. If you’ve ever wanted to bust out a Bushnell to see if you’re outside circle one for a jump putt, good news …
The Run Maker just saved you 120-plus bones.
Before I get into HOW to use the Run Maker, let’s identify some key terms …
This’ll make more sense later on.
First, the Run Maker:
And second, the basket:
Let’s roll.
To use the Run Maker, with your arm extended, hold it at eye-level between you and the pin. Then, align the bottom-most arrows of the cutout with the top of the basket’s cage. Lastly, see where the top of the chains (or bottom of the band) lies on the marker for your putting distance.
Putt accordingly.

And before you ask, yes …
Elevation changes will affect the Run Maker’s accuracy:
- For an uphill putt, the Run Maker will show a longer putt, requiring more power.
- For a downhill putt, as long as the Run Maker matches the slope, it’ll prove accurate.
Also, if you’re worried about marking your lie with the Run Maker, only to pick it up (whoops) for a distance measurement, Discineer does keychains, too. Using one, you’d mark your lie with a regular, run-of-the-mill mini marker, pull it out of your pocket, see where you’re at and putt.
Same difference.
As far as the mini itself is concerned, this thing’s ultra-durable – WAY firmer than a normal mini. Furthermore, with respect to accuracy, assuming the ground’s flat, the Run Maker is dialed-in at circle’s edge. Beyond that, it’s more of a crapshoot. But 33-ish feet is your main concern, anyway. Also, if you read the fine print on the back, Innova manufactures these …
Always a bonus.
Tired of walking off your lie to see if you’re inside or outside of circle one? What about doing the same thing with a buddy to see who’s first-up for a knee-knocking putt come crunch time?
Thanks to the Run Maker, those days are numbered. This is hardly a must-have item, but if you’re going to carry a mini around with you anyway, might as well milk it for all it’s worth.
It’s clever; it’s worth tossing in the bag.
Nab one of your own.
