Review: The Disc Golf Towch

I don’t know what it is …

But I’ve wanted one of these things forever.

The first time I saw one was five or six years ago on JomezPro. Reid Frescura was rocking the thing on the back of his bag. His was bubble-gum pink – it looked like an oversized whoopee cushion. Intrigued, I did some quick detective work (Google) to figure out what it was …

It was a Towch.

Naturally, this past Christmas, when my wife asked me what I wanted, it was Towch time. Nothing else came to mind, I’d wanted one for years, and it wasn’t expensive. And best of all, I both disc golf on a weekly basis and compulsively dry my discs – it’d see some serious action.

And for four weeks, it did just that …

The following are my findings:

What’s a Towch?

This is hardly open-heart surgery …

Towel + Pouch = Towch

That’s all you need to know.

How the Towch works

It’s not uncommon for disc golfers to clip their towels to one of the D-rings on their bags. With the towel there, not only is it easy to access when drying discs, but it doesn’t take up storage space, either. Speaking of storage space, THIS is the point of the Towch’s existence …

It’s a towel, but it’s also a putter pouch of sorts – or a pouch for whatever you want, really. Capable of comfortably carrying two discs, most devout Towch users place their putting or approach putters inside the add-on pocket. They get used a lot, and they require a good grip.

The Towch: Two-Disc Storage

Quality products needn’t be complicated:

  • Step No. 1 – Clip.
  • Step No. 2 – Carry.
  • Step No. 3 – Dry.

That’s the gist of it.

The performance of the Towch

The Towch is as advertised.

The materials and stitching are sturdy. The pouch itself is comparable to that of an actual bath towel – it’s thick. Also, the two carabiner slots are backed with metal clasps to prevent tearing. Unless you want a Towch for each bag you own, one of these will last you a number of years.

The Towch: Inside Lining

I’ve used an Upper Park Shift for the past six seasons – I don’t plan on changing. While the Shift’s minimalistic approach to carrying frisbees is a selling point for me, the two bonus disc slots the Towch provides are a welcomed benefit. With the added real estate, I’ve worked a beat-to-smithereens DX Rhyno and DX Gator into my regular lineup – they’re needed.

As far as negatives are concerned, weight is the only one that comes to mind – you’re carrying two additional discs. And if it’s the Towch flopping all over the place while you walk you’re worried about, the two carabiner clasps on opposite sides of the Towch keep it in place.

Also, the look of this thing is cool. Amazon, as well as the company’s website, offers a stock, standard-looking design with a joey – clever. I ordered mine through Great Lakes Disc, though. The retailer sells two unique stamps. Even better, a portion of all sales go to Andrew Marwede.

Will I continue to use my Towch?

No doubt.

I waited far too long for this thing to not stick with it for the long haul …

My guess is if you pick one up, you’ll quickly convert, too.
