This is a microscopic issue.
However small you’re thinking …
Think smaller.
But when you write about quite literally anything and everything related to disc golf on a daily, never-ending basis, there are no small things – it all gets covered. Hence, today’s topic …
Taming excess bag straps.
If you have no earthly idea what I’m talking about, grab your backpack-style disc golf bag and put it on. The excess straps are the long, cinchable straps that dangle down well past your chest once you’ve got the bag feeling comfortable on your back – these things, to be more specific:
I don’t like them.
- They come undone.
- They catch on stuff.
- They get in the way.
They’re unkempt-looking, too.
Because of this, one of the first things I noticed after picking up a GRIPeq bag a few years ago was that they come with Velcro strap-managers. They hardly make the bag, but they’re a welcomed perk for an overpriced disc purse – more bags should come with them.
That was then …
This is now.
I’m an Upper Park man.
These days, to keep my wayward straps under control, I simply “borrow” a few of my wife’s hair-ties – and never give them back. They work for ponytails; they work for disc golf bags.
Same difference.
Another option is to buy a pack of those tiny, multi-colored Velcro strips people use to keep the wires on their personal electronic devices from getting terrifyingly tangled. They’re dirt-cheap, so one pack of ‘em will no doubt last well through your disc golf career and into the afterlife.
Lastly, you could always cut off your remaining straps and singe the ends with a match – this feels extreme, though. This method is a bit like a tattoo: Once you do it, there’s no going back.
Keep your bag straps high, tight and secure
If you didn’t know, now you do.
Your bag will be better for it.
