I can disc golf in long sleeves.
I’d rather not, though.
Here’s the paradox …
As a disc golfer, I crave sweater weather. It makes for the best disc golf. There are a number of reasons for this. For starters, glow golf is back – always a good time. Next, after months of disc golf during the spring and summer months, it’s nice to sweat less and keep cool on the course.
Furthermore, I don’t know where you’re from or what your surroundings look like, but in the Salt Lake Valley, when the leaves change, the wooded, mountainous courses near my home look like they’ve been plucked straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Lastly, let’s not forget …
USDGC is right around the corner, too.
On the surface, when autumn rolls around, I enjoy busting out long sleeves. Layers are great for managing comfort. Also, there are four well-defined seasons in Utah – I’m ready for the cold.
But you know what’s tough on me?
And I fully admit this is mental on my end …
The long sleeve on my throwing arm drives me mad.
Loose or skin-tight, it feels restrictive. Forehand or backhand, though I’m very aware I’m in the wrong on this, my brain tells me it denies me full range of motion. Naturally, to account for this, before every throw, I’ll pull the sleeve on my throwing arm well above my elbow. It could be 55 degrees and sunny, or I could be hucking plastic over penguins in Antarctica, it’s all the same …
That thing’s coming up.
And as soon as I’ve thrown, it’s coming back down again.
Up, down, up, down, up, down, etc.
This quickly grows tiresome.
How “Raincoat Rick” excels in a shirt, rain jacket and hood in wet, cold conditions is beyond me. He’s good at disc golf and works on his game; I’m bad at disc golf and prefer to complain.
That might have something to do with it.
Regardless, “my truth” doesn’t change …
Death to sleeves.
