I love JomezPro’s “The Putting Game” series.
The past two off-seasons, JomezPro has shared the show with weekly episodes. Hosted by Paul Ulibarri and Jeremy Koling, the series features a putting battle between four Pro Tour players.
Similar to H-O-R-S-E in basketball, athletes are given two attempts to make a wacky putt of their choosing. Should a disc golfer fail to make more putts than a competitor at a station, for each shot he falls short, he’s given a letter. After spelling J-O-M-E-Z-P-R-O, you’re out …
The last golfer standings wins.
Sounds fun, right?
The putts are a blast, but it’s the unique locations that take the game to a whole new level. To date, amongst a host of differing venues, gyms, city parks, water parks, amusement parks and shopping malls have all occupied center stage. With two seasons under JomezPro’s belt, as I see it, the only real issue with keeping this ball rolling is finding creative, never-before-seen spots.
Seriously, think about it …
Cemeteries and meat-packing plants might make for a laugh or two, but they don’t offer much in the way of must-see action. Armed with a mediocre-at-best thinking cap, I’ve come up with five locations that may (or may not) interest Jonathan Gomez for future episodes of the show …
See if you can do better:
1. The beach
Water is a recurring theme in “The Putting Game” with lakes and slippery slides having both made appearances. If it’s worked before, it’ll work again. Only this time, however, I’d like to see the awesome power of the ocean get a shot at messing with somebody’s circle-two confidence.
There’s plenty to play with: Sand, waves, water toys and even a nearby pier could make things interesting for out-of-the-sandbox thinkers. Plus, as an inadvertent byproduct of the setting, the JomezPro crew would capture hundreds of innocent beach-goers in their swimsuits on camera …
That alone would make for a sexy-scary viewing experience.
2. A ski resort
Utah is known for “the greatest snow on earth.”
That’s what our license plates claim, at least.
With ski resorts a dime a dozen in my home state, even outside of Beehive Country, I have to think introducing one into the mix would be a slam-dunk. It would require some planning, as “The Putting Game” is filmed between events during the Pro Tour season. To make snow an integral part of an episode, off-season filming arrangements would need to be made.
But again, a ski resort would offer the JomezPro team plenty to work with – uphill and downhill putts, for starters. Assuming the ski lift’s running, it’d be great to see how it could be integrated into a putting station. And high-speed sledding could allow for a LITERAL death putt …
Talk about entertainment.
Time to bust out the balaclava.
3. A basketball gym
I was a fan of Brodie Smith before he got into disc golf. I couldn’t have cared less about his Ultimate career, but his trick-shots viddies were addicting for somebody with no real athletic ability like myself. If you also frequented them, you might’ve noticed something …
Basketball courts featured heavily in his content.
Skip shots for dayzzz.
Also, following in Broderick’s footsteps, swap out the traditional disc golf basket for a hoop and net to see what’s possible. For as much as I’d like to see JomezPro gain access to a full-blown NBA arena, given a rock-hard putter could very well crack a backboard, a city park might be better-suited for this video. Still, trick shots and courts go hand-in-hand for a reason …
The results rock.
Dust off the ol’ fastback, should the mood (again, Brodie) strike you.
* Note: In JomezPro’s defense, the basketball hoop has made an appearance – click here.
4. An ice-skating rink
Yes, please.
I’ve already emboldened the text, but I’ll do it again …
Skip shots for dayzzz.

Whether indoors or outdoors, the thing about combining ice-skating and disc golf is that there’s no hiding. For example, a guy like Simon Lizotte looks like a natural out on the ice, but for as much “swag” as he claims to have, Drew Gibson might as well be a baby elephant out there.
And he wouldn’t be the only one.
Minus the threat of a career-ending injury, this one’s a no-brainer.
5. Somewhere haunted
Yeah, yeah …
I get it: Darkness makes for sucky footage.
I don’t want to hear it.
I’m a slave to those ghost-hunting shows where dorks in dire need of female companionship with WAY too much time on their hands attempt to catch something supernatural on camera.
With the Pro Tour both a cross-country and cross-continent affair, it’d take all of five minutes on Google to find an allegedly haunted site within driving distance of a high-profile tourney stop.
Film a regular, run-of-the-mill episode of “The Putting Game” as people know it at some small-town brewery for hipsters, and you’ll have captured the attention of your everyday audience – whoop-dee-freaking-doo. Record audio of a demon heckling Calvin Heimburg mid-putt, however, and you’ll have opened JomezPro up to a NEW kind of subscriber …
Wiccans and the like.
I rest my case.
* Honorable Mention: It’d result in broken equipment, but a bowling alley would be epic.
Listen, I very much doubt Mr. Gomez frequents Green Splatter …
But if you do, and you know him, shoot him this link.

Have anything to add? Take to Twitter to let us know – we’ll actually (for real) get back to you.
Editor’s Suggestions:
- Where has Green Splatter been the past 12 days?
- Disc golf: Stable throwing putters deserve more attention
- Disc golf: When asked during play, should you disclose disc details?

What about a skate park?
Oh, it’s a rock-solid idea …
But they’ve already done that.
It worked out well, though: https://bit.ly/3QmhS8O
I just recently opened YONDAR – a private disc golf park. Not quite a disc golf course but with many more amenities than your average field – YONDAR makes field work fun.
Missouri hill ground has its own beauty all seasons. Any shot you see on You Tube can be more or less recreated at YONDAR
Very cool, Charlie!
Maybe JomezPro will head that way for “The Putting Game” one of these days …
You never know 🙂
