Disc golf news: Discmania signs Cynthia Ricciotti, disc golf couples clearly a thing

Tuesday morning, Cynthia Ricciotti announced via an Instagram video she’d recently parted ways with Dynamic Discs. She’d spent four years with the Emporia-based discs manufacturer.

Of the move, wrote Ricciotti:

“The wait is over. I couldn’t be more excited to announce that I’ll be representing Discmania for the 2022 season! This partnership is something that I feel fits me very well, and I’m beyond eager for the season to start.”

At 19 years old, Ricciotti’s an up-and-comer in the FPO field. And though she’s the 2018 Junior World Disc Golf Champion in the under-18 division, Cynthia’s quite possibly best known for her rags-to-riches path to prominence. In 2017, she first appeared on the greater disc golf stage as a “chump” in the fourth installment of Central Coast Disc Golf’s “Champs vs. Chumps” series.

From mere “chump” to a sponsored, full-time touring disc golfer …

Not too shabby.

More specifically, Ricciotti will be a member of Discmania’s Tour Team. The Tour Team is the second-highest unit within Team Discmania. It features talented disc golfers like Avery Jenkins, Colten Montgomery and Casey White. The highest, most elite crew is the Sky Team. As of 2022, it’s limited to only three top-tier MPO players: Simon Lizotte, Eagle McMahon and Kyle Klein.

It used to be two – Kyle Klein was given the promotional bump earlier this month.

Which brings me to this: Disc golf couples are real, and they’re a force to be reckoned with. That’s right – Kyle and Cynthia aren’t only Discmania teammates, they’re partners, as well.

Seriously, check out the top-three most prominent plastic-hucking couples in the game:

  • First, there was Jay and Des Reading.
  • Then, along came Nate Doss and Valerie Jenkins.
  • And today, Paul and Hannah McBeth are big in our sport.

Moreover, up until Des left Innova for Mint Discs earlier this off-season, within each couple, both man and woman are made one in “holy sponsorship matrimony.” Kyle and Cynthia have their work cut out for them to reach the “power couple” status of the aforementioned …

Unified in plastic, though, thanks to Discmania, they’re halfway there.
