The Disc Golf Network (DGN) isn’t perfect …
But it’s better than whatever production company was used for 2022 Big Money Skins.
Here’s what Luke Humphries, GK Pro’s hype-man, had to say leading up to the event:
“For the first time in disc golf, we’ve hired a company that specializes in live-sports broadcasting, so you’ll be on the edge of your seat as one of these players takes home $50,000.”
I didn’t pay the $15 cover charge to tune into the action at Eagles Crossing, but followed the high-dollar event close enough on Twitter to know how it went down – it wasn’t pretty:
- Issue No. 1 – Crap audio.
- Issue No. 2 – Crap visuals.
- Issue No. 3 – Crap commentary.
Supposedly, however, the live-chat commentary for fans was EPIC …
After hours of THIS acid trip, how could it not be?
I hate being right sometimes. Just tuned in to the Big Money Skins match. 🙁 pic.twitter.com/UAqQtbE7rq

Here’s a crazy thought …
Remember when people lost their mother-freaking minds about the DGN manually supplanting JomezPro as disc golf’s leader in video coverage? Or what about when fans thought Ian Anderson incorrectly identifying discs from the booth was punishable by death?
Somehow, we survived.
The first experience I had with the DGN was the 2017 or 2018 Memorial Championship – don’t recall the exact year. All that was offered was lead-card coverage. And it was live – painfully live. There was no editing. There were few graphics. And LOTS of “filler” conversations.
Fast forward five or so years, and live disc golf is now the standard.
The post-produced stuff simply can’t compete. Hours of shot-by-shot coverage of multiple cards builds an event-specific storyline audiences can’t help but connect with emotionally …
The result is drama in real-time.
Getting beyond that, the DGN now offers full-length documentaries and off-season, reality-style series to keep fans engaged until the Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) resumes in late February.
Live disc golf is hard.
The DGN does it well …
And it’ll only get better.

Wham-O!!!
Bahahaha …
Are you referencing what was said during the Big Money Skins commentary, by chance?
Yeah, that made me and Big Jerm lol. I’m bummed the live broadcast was removed, but it didn’t make many people look good. Felt bad for Big Jerm and Rich Gould for being the face of what went down.
If I had to guess, the event will be back next year …
It’ll be free for everybody to view, whether live or post-produced.
It’ll be a great time, too.
In theory, SUCH a cool event …
Just poor execution – they’ll get it right, though.
