Everybody likes Nate Sexton.
As a matter of principle, Green Splatter gives nobody the kid-glove treatment. And still, the most negative thing ever written about him on this site was about his calves being way too sexy.
Yes, there are professional disc golfers who’ve made their story one of winning: Paul McBeth, Ricky Wysocki and Paige Pierce all come to mind. And you can’t forget Ken Climo, either.
But Sexton’s made his mark in just about every OTHER enviable facet of the game.
Observe …
For starters, he’s captain of Team Innova. Say what you will about the stuff coming out of Rancho Cucamonga these days, but there’s prestige associated with anything Dave Dunipace touches. Also, screw the Nexus Firefly or Star X-Caliber: If you like bagging Sexton Firebirds, imagine the royalty checks associated with having your name plastered on the flight plate …
That’s a sweet side hustle.
Furthermore, though the guy’s backhand is by no means memorable, it’s efficient – and sneakily powerful, too. The real standout skill set, however, is Nate’s forehand: It will go down as one of the best the game’s ever seen. That alone earns him some major brownie points in this debate.
Next, let’s talk experiences …
The first time Paul McBeth purchased a massive RV to tour the country as a full-time disc golfer, do you know who he asked to tag along for the ride? Yup, you guessed it: Daddy Sexton. His consistent play is one thing; his time in tight quarters with disc golf’s greatest is yet another.
Additionally, at this point, Sexton is more JomezPro than Jonathan Gomez. And due to the “Champs vs. Chumps” series, he’s not all that far from the same feat with Central Coast Disc Golf. Thanks to these undertakings, Nate’s set the commentary standard for disc golf. As soon as his career’s doneskie, he’s got a cushy, full-time gig in the DGN booth with his name on it.
There IS more to life than disc golf, though …
Most of the Pro Tour simply can’t afford to know it – not Sexton.
He graduated from Oregon State. He married a doctor. He has a daughter.
Let’s wrap this thing up where we started …
Wins.
Sexton’s no Brian Schweberger in the wins column, but he’s hardly a slouch. Since 2014, he’s taken down the Beaver State Fling, Ledgestone Insurance Open, Canadian National Disc Golf Championships and Las Vegas Challenge. Oh, and he’s a USDGC champion, as well …
That’s a BIG deal.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a more complete disc golf career than Sexton’s …
Totes jelly.

BTW, what in the world is the team captain???
Not quite sure I understand the question …
Like, why does a disc golf team need a team captain?
Is that what you mean?
Well, why does a sponsor need a team captain and what all does the team captain do?
It’s a fair question …
Disc manufacturers have teams, as is the case in professional skateboarding or cycling or auto-racing, etc.
Now, as for what that captain does, I’m not entirely certain …
Given how individualistic disc golf is, it might be more of a commercial title with a pay bonus attached to it.
An honor still, I’m sure.
Thanks a bunch, Lucas! BTW, i check Green Splatter every evening to see what new article there was that day.
Much love, brotha!
