If you’ve been at this whole “disc golf” thing for a good bit, you’ve probably had a heart-to-heart chat with your spouse about the “suspicious activity” on your bank statements …
You know, the regular, eye-popping payments made to Foundation Disc Golf, Disc Golf United, Infinite Discs or any other online retailer – and for something as insignificant as plastic toys.
Disc golfers buy stuff …
LOTS of stuff.
No, the Raptor might not’ve worked for you in the past, but the Captain’s Raptor is a tweaked version of the disc – it’ll get your game to where it needs to be. And while you’re at it, might as well buy a few backups, because who knows when Discraft will do another run of these things?
So functions the mind of a TRUE disc addict …
I have about 45 2018 AM Nats Sparkle Vultures. Those are my bread and butter. I have over 3000+ disc so I definitely have 200+ destroyers even though I don’t bag them anymore. 100 challengers bc I love putting, and about 300+ buzzzs

Seek help immediately.
Even crazier, this is such a pervasive problem, that there are legitimate, tax-paying businesses within our sport that literally sell nothing but boxes to help recovering plastic junkies get their garages (and lives) in order – to make sense of the mess YEARS of unwise spending made …
This is why I love Innova’s “Factory Second” discs.
I’m citing Innova for the purpose of appealing to search engines, but most major manufacturers do something similar. They might call ‘em “X-Outs” or “Misprints.” You get the idea. Whatever your brand of choice might be, seek out these discs – they’ll prove to be real game-changers.
Factory Second discs are golf frisbees that don’t meet Innova’s aesthetic standards. Because of it, they can’t be sold at full price. You’ll often find ‘em with an “F-2” or “X” stamp. Or, if the guy hot-stamping discs immediately notices an issue, he might just stamp it two or three times.
Important: The aesthetic issues of Factory Second discs don’t affect their flight characteristics.
Random black specs. Tiny air bubbles on the flight plate. Maybe a small scratch or two.
Buy them.
Obviously, they’re cheaper – that’s a bonus. But those “aesthetic issues” I mentioned? Half the time, you’ll get your Factory Second Destroyer in the mail and won’t be able to identify the issue that had it labeled “unworthy” in Dave Dunipace’s eyes to begin with – this happens constantly.
But it gets better:
- Bonus Benefit No. 1 – You can try out new molds without taking out a second mortgage.
- Bonus Benefit No. 2 – You won’t care about losing ‘em, because – hey, ugly as heck.
- Bonus Benefit No. 3 – You can easily wipe stamps and dye them, if that’s your jam.
Newbie disc golfers pounce on dumb deals and over-marketed molds …
Savvy, seasoned disc golfers WAIT and WATCH for bang-for-your buck buys.
Be smart. Opt for the Factory Second.

I agree 100%. I bag a ton of F2!
And, hey …
If you like to dye ’em, even better, right?
Do you dye? Because if you do you ought to write a simple article about how to. Take it as a compliment. When green splatter writes about it, it is just easier to get.
Benji, I don’t, actually …
But there are guys who (sometimes) write for Green Splatter who do …
Trust us: One of those’ll drop in the future.
We’ll also do one on “stenciling,” as well.
All great ideas!
My entire bag minus a glitch is F2 and I’ve bagged 90% F2s since starting this game a year ago. I absolutely love the value. That being said….
Eventually you’ll get bit. And eventually you’ll fall in love with not just a mold but a mold in a certain way.
Example is my two toros… First one I got was board flat and absolute money I fell in love. Got a backup and it’s domey and more like tofu than beef.
I’ll always bag F2s, I mean, a six dollar DX Roc3? Halo on there sometimes for 14 bucks!? But there are molds that I’m getting particular about and it’ll be to the brick and mortar pro shop I go.
Great stuff, Matt – couldn’t agree more!
Just out of curiosity, what do you do with that domey Toro?
Have you found a use for it?
Or, is it collecting dust in the attic?
